Final Fantasy 2 Review

I actually liked this game despite it being rated online as the worst of the series. So far the only one I cannot stand is 3. I didn’t think I’d like this at first because after the first battle you notice you don’t really have a “leveling” system, but your weapons level up? I don’t know if I even noticed that by end game? I guess I just went by HP. Maybe that makes me bad or maybe I’m just carried by the Pixel Remaster.

You also had to level up spells by using them. Everyone could use each spell though.

You can find them in chests, get them from enemies, or buy them in shops. Then assign them to someone.

Osmose was introduced in this game, which is cool but I never had to use it.

Key items and learning was introduced and immediately taken away. You’d have to click up and down between them all when talking to people to figure out where to go next.

Pixel remaster maps show the location of all entrances and chests when in dungeons. You can turn off enemy encounters and run through them. Beating these now isn’t the achievement is was when new, but it’s great to be able to still play them.

I didn’t like the dungeon layout in FF2 because most of the rooms were dead ends.

My wyvern flying into a tornado didn’t upload but you get to travel around a lot of different geographic locations.

Chocobo is also introduced early on in the series. It doesn’t do much though.

I like this game. FF1 is slightly better but only because 2 tried introducing things that didn’t work. Like 1, 2 came full circle but with a lot more deaths. I liked the story. You never had a real fourth character because that person would change out and just die in the story. Maria had a saddish ending but that comes with saving the world.
