Awesome Con, as stated on their website, is a “celebration of geek culture”. This is more of an umbrella, pop culture convention than a targeted comic convention or anime convention. Fans can expect to see more of everything at Awesome Con, which means you’ll likely see Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Genshin Impact, X-Men, and K-Pop Demon Hunters in the same room.
Destination Cosplay
Each year, Awesome Con’s dates float. This year it was held at the Walter E Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. March 13-15. In 2027 it will take place April 23-25. Every year, it can bring in over 60,000 people, but it doesn’t feel like it because the convention center is large and fans are spread out in the Dealer’s Room, panels, and other activity areas.

Awesome Con hosts a wide array of guests ranging from comic artists to voice actors to actors to Disney artists. This year, some of the main fan attractions were actors from Critical Role and Firefly. These included Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, Tailiesin Jaffe, Sam Riegel, Luis Carazo, and Alexander Ward. Other actors included George Takei from Star Trek, Ron Perlman from Hellboy, Gillian Anderson from X-Files, Adam Savage from Myth Busters, and more from Stranger Things and Dr Who.
There was also a focus on voice actors from X-Men 97, Death Note, Bethesda games, and Baldur’s Gate.
Plus Ultra Entertainment hosted a stage in the eating area, which was located in the back of the Dealer’s Room / Artist’s Alley. This area also hosted a well-hidden Boba and sesame/teriyaki chicken vendor, which almost never had a line. Plus Ultra’s stage held bands, cosplay contests, and a drag show on Saturday afternoon, which is depicted below, featuring host Heyitsjohnnyalucard.
Saturday night’s cosplay contest was held in the ballroom’s on the top of the convention center and filled to the brim. Each contestant’s outfit was completely original. When seen up close, it was possible to view the detail put into each one of them.
Towards the back of the Dealer’s Room and Artist Alley there was a ton of things for people to do. This included Destination Cosplay with Shady Haze, Shimmerwali, Jetee.lupee, Num1xmncosplay, Millimetriccosplay, Kirakreates, Elenastrikes, Blackcrystalcosplay, Dmandamartini, and many more. Kakkoi cosplay repair was back there, cosplay changing rooms, cosplay meetups for photoshoots and fun, and Ghostbusters, Star Wars, and medieval experiences. Laurel’s House of Horror was staged here but some of their actors walked the room, interacting with fans.
Other fun areas were the arcade and tabletop sets. Some of the games in the arcade were created by the guests themselves. Across the arcade was the Romancing DC room with local museum info and a mermaid people could take photos with.
